Besides the smallish sites I noticed a few other things that weren't right. They used to have a gate with card access for security purposes but now the campground is wide open for anyone to enter. I wonder if they decided to not reinvest some profits to fix the gate? Then there's the way they do "reservations" where they will "reserve" a site for you as long as you reserve for a full week. If you reserve for less then 7 nights then if someone else comes along willing to stay longer you will be bumped to another site. Also they have an onerous cancellation policy where if you fail to cancel within 2 weeks you get nothing back and if you do tell them within 2 weeks they charge you a fee. Finally they have the water lines running above ground so you see the ugly things everywhere. Overall, it seems they want money coming in but are being too miserly with spending money on the facility.
I love this campground. We go up there 2 to 3 times a year. The owners are friendly, sites are decent size, and good price per night. The staff is friendly too. I have been going up to the mountains for the past 4 years with my wife and 2kids and we all call this our home away from home. The only thing I wish the would do is rake out there swimming pond and keep it maintained. There is a ton of places to go swimming around there so it's not a huge deal. I just got back from my trip there and can't wait to schedule my next trip there.
Awesome little campgroud! Cute cabins and some were right on the river! I highly recommend it!
We had site 27. After squeezing into that site we had nearly no room for anything else. Just putting out the slide and awning dominated the entire site. Although the site was level where I parked the RV the rest of the site was very unlevel and filled with huge rocks. Couldn't use the fire ring because it was too close to the RV and couldn't use the picnic table because of the dramatic tilt of the ground.
Although the staff were friendly and helpful we felt very underwhelmed with what we actually got for a campsite. The sites were small and difficult to maneuver the RV into. One of our neighbors ruined the back bumper trying to extract himself from the site. Another neighbor needed 2 people to help him out of his site which took a full 20 minutes of backing up and going forward to shimmy out of the site.
An absolutely wonderful campground. We have been going here for 14 years and have never had a bad experience. The brook sites are great, it is quiet, and so much to do in area. Very clean and well tended. Fantastic owners and staff. Our favorite place to camp!
My friends and I have been coming to Lost River for many years. The staff is pleasant. Such a nice place to camp in the heart of the White Mountains. Far enough away so there is no cell service but a quick 10 minute drive into town for supplies. The sights have a wide variety to choose from but the ones on the streams are killer. Just be warned this isn't a place to throw a weekend rager. But if you are responsible and respectful you won't have any issues here.
